Electric vehicles don't frighten me. It's the people who know absolutely nothing about batteries with a blind religious faith in them and the willingness to spend trillions of dollars of other people's money that are scary.

Well actually subsidies to layabouts far outstrips all other govt spending. Depends on how one defines "subsidies". Welfare, govt payrolls to the lazy looters called "govt employees", food stamps.. .all are subsidies.

And all those corporate subsidies should be stopped, too. However it's a game all nations play with the US engaging in it less than Europe or Japan. The justification is that it levels the playing field.

Example: Airbus would never have been able to compete with Boeing without massive subsidies. It's tribute to US business that it can compete in spite of the huge advantages foreign corporations enjoy.

Since by far the largest portion of Federal "entitlement" spending is paying people back what they put in to the system, I guess that means old people who worked their entire lives and paid into Social Security and Medicare are "layabouts," right? Only 1.7% of the population gets their income from welfare; and even that number is high because it's based on a percentage of income and not a total number.

Having said that, there's an interesting observation here: to me, an electric bike or car is just another step along the technology path started by Benz, Curtiss, Harley and Davidson, etc. To you and Buzz, the technology is somehow inextricably embedded in politics and social policies. Why is that?
