Default Little Miss Sunshine - avoid

Watched this over-rated turd last night. It's National Lampoon's Vacation as if directed by Wes Anderson's dumber brother.

It's a lame family roadtrip comedy dressed in a thin veneer of phony indie quirkiness. It's dumb and glib with pretensions of intelligence and depth, flattering gullible audiences into liking it. The characters are one-dimensional sitcom stereotypes who don't act remotely like real people. The writers directly cribbed the Aunt Edna scene from Vacation, for God's sake, and the directors cynically cribbed the vaguely-'70s-looking-but-it's-not production design from any Wes Anderson film. Worst of all, the ending of the movie completely missed the point. The only reason it succeeded at all was a really good cast who made chicken salad out of chicken sh!t. But it's still a sh!t salad.

There are a few genuinely funny scenes and dialogue, but I was so offended by its naked and unwarranted pretensions that it irritated me into hating it more than I would have if it had just presented itself as the minor cut-above-a-sitcom flick that it is. It's as edgy and clever as Sister Act.

"Schizuki's review for Little Miss Sunshine was merely a three word review, which simply read, "Little Miss Sh!tstain."

I suffered through The Three Muskateers the other day.. I've been home for a week recuperating from another hernia surgery and have turned to OnDemand for survival.

Three Muskateers is basically the swashbuckler version of a chick-flic. This is the one your teenaged daughter makes her boy friend go see. He will agree because it's got swordfights and neat steampunk weapons but make no mistake, with a handsome young doe-eyed leading man, a handsome yet shy young king and Orlando Bloom as the campy villian it's not something a guy should watch alone.

Red Tails on the other hand was a halfway decent film with outstanding CGI air combat and not too sanctimonious story line. I'd recommend it.

The rest of the time was just Game of Thrones re-runs which are always good.

The best movie I've seen in ages is The Avengers. The cast interaction combined with the special effects (awesome 3-D) really kicked ass.

I wish I was Tony Stark so I could be doing that freckly bit.

LMS wasn't that bad. Sort of funny actually. But it doesn't live up to the hype. Sort of like American Beauty.

After "Dr. Strangelove" it's all downhill anyhow.

Hell, not much to see after Doctor StrangeGLOVE, either....

As an unapologetic Joss Whedon fanboy, I think he's peerless for witty team banter, backs-against-the-wall desperation, and defiant resolve to win or die trying.

Check out Serenity. It came out the same year as The Phantom Menace - George Lucas got all the attention, but Whedon made the far superior film.

Thanks for the tip; I will.

Anybody heard if Prometheus is any good? The last two weren't very good IMO. Then again, Aliens was a tough act to follow...I just watched it for the bazzillionth time and still found new stuff I hadn't noticed before.

Anybody loooking for a job? Weyland Industries is hiring!

Project Prometheus

Serenity is by far one of the best Sci-Fi films ever made. You can watch the TV series "Firefly" that it was based on as a collection on DVD too. Both are among my all-time favorites of any genre. Prometheus looks promising, can't wait to see that one as well..

Pandorum is worth a look too actually
