It weighs nearly THREE POUNDS!! It must be AWESOME!!!

Seriously...drag racing is very cool. Especially Top Fuel. When I was a kid in CA my cousins took me to the drag races. The "rails" were the fastest cars out there, the new and controversial innovation was rear-engined cars. I wonder what those guys would have thought if John Force had rolled his current Top Fuel car out and pulled a sub five-second time?

"A top fuel dragster accelerates from a standstill to 100 mi/h in as little as 0.7 seconds (less than one fifth the time required by a production Porsche 911 Turbo to reach 96.5 km/h or 60 mi/h) and can exceed 280 mph in 660 ft. This acceleration subjects the driver to an average force of about 4.0 G over the duration of the race."

Look at the photos. I love the pic of dad mixing nitro in a Chianti bottle while Jr. holds the slightly burnt towel to perhaps throw on dad's face should the mixture not be "just right."

On this one, at about 5:50-5:56 you can see sparks from the metallic-clutch "leaking" around the titanium bellhousing:

Ron Capps 2012 pre-season 4.09 @308 MPH - YouTube

Those clutches lose over a pound of metal every pass - they're completely shagged by 3 or 4 runs (I've got a few discarded discs and steels from Tony Pedregon's car - big & heavy, I was gonna make a clock or somethin' out of 'em, but never got-around to it).

If you did that with your kid these days, they'd call in HRS and arrest you for "child abuse" and "reckless endangerment." Pussies...my dad used to let us ride on top of the Land Rover in Saudi at 50-60 mph all day.

Here's my favorite:

I also like the pic where the tubby, 13 year old boy is the rider.

"Git on there and twist the throttle to the stop, Jr."

"Don't back off until I say."

I'll ask him but I think one is the brake that they use when they are staging the car at the line and I think one is a direct line to God.

The wheel base on a FC is much shorter than Top Fuel. It's like driving an 8000 hp wet bar of soap down the track.

The guys will tell you the FC is the hardest one to drive.
