Just so everyone knows..... we've been getting inundated with spammers from Eastern Europe, India and Sri Lanka mostly these days and it's hard to keep up. I've tried banning them but apparently when they get banned they get an automatic e-mail informing them. They then immediately repost their garbage with a new handle. So now I'm trying just deleting them and hoping they don't come back to check. Maybe they'll be so busy all day spamming every site in the world that they won't pay attention to MO if they don't get informed that they've been banned. We'll see how it goes.

Frankly I'm getting tired of having to handle so much spam.

I just spent about 15 minutes deleting and banning spammers and I'm not getting paid to do it so I may just bag it all off. It isn't worth the hassle.

For what it's worth, Seru, I appreciate the effort you're putting in to make our site usable. I hate it when I hit "New Posts" and 50 come up; most from years ago. There must be a technology that can block that crap before it gets in.

I urge Mr. Duke et. al. to hook you up with a bike eval, rally trip, or other perk to compensate you for your time. Hell, I'll buy you a beer myself if you ever make it to Florida!

This site can be a PITA (and VS doesn't seem to be interested in fixing it), but if it weren't for your efforts, it'd be unusable.

I too thank you, Sarnali, Moke and the other Mods for your labors!

I'm doing that for another little forum.

Most of it is computer generated......so are the user names.....so screwing with user IDs is generally a waste of time. They almost never use the same one twice.

HOWEVER......can you block/ban by IP address range ??

They rotate addresses too but seldom get outside of Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe. I will be working on a ban list for those areas; hope I can get it down to less than 100 entries without too much colateral damage.
