My morning commutes now are in the 40s. When it hits the 30s, the bike is going up for the winter.

What's the cutoff for you California and Florida pu$$ies?

I ride all year here. Some mornings in the Winter it's a little cold but unless there's rain I'm out there.

With your legs splayed out on the highway pegs in those temps, you must really suffer from chapped lips.

I ride all year, unless it gets below freezing. There are a couple of irrigation systems that are never shut off, and occasionally they spray out on the roadway. Black ice is no fun at all.

The other reason I don't ride when it's that cold is; I don't have to.

"Cutoff?" What do you mean by "cutoff?" I only wear cutoffs if I'm doing a beach ride, otherwise it's Most of the Gear Much of the Time.

Seriously, tomorrow it's supposed to get into the 50's, where it will stay through late Dec/Jan. No problem with that, just swap the mesh jacket for the lined one.

Lower than the 50's I have some thermal stuff and electric gloves; I probably use them sooner than a thick-blooded Yankee would. But I never park the bike for cold, only for heat and rain in the late Summer. We never see ice here, so the worst of it is rain when it's cold.

Our winters here in the Pacific North Wet are usually 45 and cloudy with 90% chance of rain with a few days of clear and 20's thrown in, maybe a week or two of snow to keep things interesting.

For the most part you can gear up and ride almost all year if you want though I drive to work at least if it's below freezing or monsoon rain, for a club run or function I'll ride in just about anything.

If the Fool-Injected bike will not start and run because it's so cold that the ECU fuel-tables will not resolve to a fast-idle, I take the car. That's usually around single-digit Fahrenheit, according to the IAT sensor-readout.

It's NOT that I can't make the bike run (you have to diddle with the throttle for about ten-minutes), it's that, even with 'lecktrickery clothes, hand-guards, and layered heavy clothing it's F-Bomb'n MISERABLE at those temps riding for an hour.

OK, OK, looks like we're all pretty tough sons-a-batches here. As much as we argue, we can all agree that riding beats driving any day.
