Yuppie beach clean up
This is just too good not to share.
As part of my son's football season, the league decided to have the kids participate in a beach cleanup as a community service project. LCCPW partnered with I love a clean San Diego and the kids all met at 10 am at the beach. Keep in mind, I live in Yuppieville and it's not exactly a trash dump around here. The event even included Starbucks coffee for all the parents. After I returned from my Sunday ride, I came home to my son and his friend at our house. I asked them how it went. "There really wasn't any trash other than a couple of cigarette butts to pick up," my son said. The other boy said, "the trash bags and coffee cups amounted to more trash than was on the whole beach! We actually created more trash by cleaning up the beach." Hilarious

Now that's feel-good enviromentalism at it's finest! I'm sure your son and his compadres learned a valuable lesson in enviromental stewardship ; )

I did the same thing with my kid a few weeks ago. I think there's more to it then simply how much trash they pick up. If nothing else, it might give them a sense that littering is stupid. And it got a few hundred kids off the couch and outside in the fresh air.

I made my daughter pick up her cigarette butts out of the flower bed where she'd been flipping them......

I'm just glad Buzz can come to terms with his Yuppie status. Now if we can just get him to accept his "RUB" status, his journey of self-awareness will be complete.
That carefree hippie on a BMW is no more, Buzz. Its time to move on.
