I was reading up on the Chinese space station effort yesterday. I was wondering why they didn't get in on the ISS. According to the article I read, they had applied to several times, but were rebuffed by the US.

I don't get it. We'll buy everything from drywall to microchips from them, we'll go into debt to them for $3 trillion bucks, but they can't climb up in the tree fort? That's nuts.

As long as the current NASA bureaucracy is in place and as long as politicians keep saying that we need to spend the money on social programs on Earth instead of in space, the space program is doomed.
