It's hard to watch the videos and comprehend the scale of devastation. There's one clip of acres of farmland getting covered by a tsunami wave. It looks like a slow spill of water on a kitchen floor - and then you see houses floating in it. It must have been at least ten feet high and moving over forty miles an hour. You can't wrap your head around it.

Here are some more superlatives:

"Scientists said the quake ranked as the fifth-largest earthquake in the world since 1900 and was nearly 8,000 times stronger than one that devastated Christchurch, New Zealand, last month.

"The energy radiated by this quake is nearly equal to one month's worth of energy consumption" in the United States, U.S. Geological Survey Scientist Brian A****er told The Associated Press."

They're saying "hundreds dead" right now. It'll be a miracle if it stays anywhere near that.

You can bet the Japanese won't piss, moan and sit on their asses. They'll buckle down and get things running.

And hey, all you guys in Hawaii and the West Coast - stay the f*** away from the water for a while, OK? Don't die for a cool picture or a tasty wave.

I wonder with the quake in new Zealand, the recent violent eruptions on the Big Island of Hawaii and the Japanese quake now, sure seems like it's working itself up for a big one.

Dude, I think this was the big one. Any bigger and we're in Roland Emmerich territory.
