Default $4.07 / Gallon

I paid $4.07 per gallon for 93 octane yesterday at the neighborhood Chevron. The regular was $3.74, IIRC. I had just heard a few minutes earlier on the radio that the national average was $3.25.

Its.......A FACT!

Time to strap a battery cart to the back of the 'Strom, Ken!

Why are you running 93?

I doubt your engine gets any benefit from it, and you could save enough per tank to buy half a Snickers bar...

FWIW, I did a 'test' a few years back with my 955. I ran from here to Valdosta with my regular mid-grade, after carefully filling the tank to the 'lip'. Noted my fuel usage when I tanked up there on the 'cheap' 93, and again noted the fuel used when I got home and refueled.

As I recall, there was no real difference in economy; I think the 93 may have been a couple tenths less. There was no difference in engine 'feel.'

So, take that for what it's worth.

Anyhow, have a safe 'Tour'!

Actually I was filling the Mini. BMW says it needs 93; although I've used 87 in it a few times.

BUT, I do run 93 in the Vee, and I got a ration for it over at Stromtroopers. They say I'm throwing my money away. I say Mr. Vee loves me, and he deserves the best. There's special stuff in Premium. Secret stuff they don't put in the cheap gas. (HHO...shhh).

Besides, I don't get as bad a headache after huffing 93 octane as I do with 87.

Use whatever the manual tells you to use. Those poindexters in the engineering department know these things. Now, if altitude or whatnot changes that, I have no idea. I'll let one of the smarty-pantses answer that.

And "they" would be right.

And "premium" is just a marketing lie.
In most cases the ONLY thing different is the octane rating.
In some cases, that is achieved simply by adding more ethanol.

You aren't doing your bike any favors......but the gasoline industry LOVES you !!

We're very fortunate to have none or very little ethanol in our gas here. I hear a lot of horror stories on the VStrom boards about that crap.

I only use Shell Super Premium with Platformate.

Platformate improves the quality of gas by adding powerful cleaning agents that help fight the accumulation of harmful carbon, gum and varnish deposits in the fuel system that can rob my engine of peak performance. Platformate makes my engine run smoother, get better gas mileage, reduces wear, increases it's service life, reduces maintenance, and gives me a boner the size of Nebraska.

YOU go ahead and run the "87" octane greasy kid-stuff. I'll be over here with Platformate ...and the hot chicks.
