About the worst thing can happen on a carrier is if the dumbsh*t airdales catch the flight deck or hanger deck on fire, not much short of a nuke or nuke torpedo can damage them. My brothers are either Vietnam or Desert Storm vets, it's a privilege to ride with them.

F*CK you you dumb**** blackshoes. The only time the Indy ever caught fire was when 206 did a ramp strike and broke in half, the aft end fell in the jet shop, while the rest of the phantom tore down the flight deck and scrapped the pilot and rio to mush. It was carrying full ordinance, and some Bosuns Mate got enough guts to climb up on the flight deck to do a FOD walkdown, and the dip sh!t was holding on to a sparrow warhead. So we threw his ass in the port catwalk and gave the warhead the deep six. Should have deep sixed the BM too, since he was holding a explosive device that could have killed everybody on the flight deck. Guess that's what he was a blackshoe, no brains.

Oh, no!
Yer not gonna skate with that one, Matthew! I was the Fire Marshal when Phantom 206 augured into the rounddown. Twere'nt no snipe up there! Man, I can still see that film. Four power calls. Bless their souls. The 'real' story (as I remember it) is that it was a Sidewinder warhead. It rolled forward of the wreckage, and it was the Air Gunner (named Allred, IIRC) that picked it up. A whiteshirt yelled at him that it was 'evidence' for the inevitable investigation. Gunner told him to go f*ck himself, and dropped the offending article over the side. Snarli, you shoulda seen the airedales with the 2-1/2 inch firehose midships on the Flight Deck! They apparently had trouble holding onto it, so at least four guys had tied themselves to it! That F-4 hit so hard, he punched a hole in 2-inch steel plate.

He should have handed it to the whiteshirt. Heh heh. They could have kept it "safe" in the wardroom.

I seem to recall a big commotion on the Flight Deck but I was down in the hole so it was just another airdale clusterf*ck to us.
Too bad about the aviators, we went and looked at the dent it made later on.
