"Sing me a song, you're a singer, do me a wrong, you're a bringer of evil"

Ahh the days of 8 track tapes in baby blue '69 SS396 El Caminos with open weapons tied down in the back, blasting out Devil music on the way to yet another great day of riding, makes me want to dream of those times and never awake.

You hear me Mike?

What a bummer. My son heard "Man on the Silver Mountain" when he was about 8 and wanted it on his iPod.

I've seen Dio a couple of times in his various forms-Rainbow, Sabbath, Dio, etc. The dude had great pipes and never phoned in a show. He always gave maximum effort.

I'm gonna walk around all day giving people the devil's horns salute. I'm not sure Dio invented that, but he popularized it. Or perhaps he was just missing his two middle fingers.

Dio claims he was the originator of the "devil horn" salute. I have no reason to doubt it. RIP Dio! Cancer's a *****. Tough way to go out.

I wouldn't say Ronnie was what's defined today as "Death Metal". More like Ozzy (in fact, he replaced Ozzie for a time), or Judas Priest, or maybe a "heavier" Scorpions - not the growly, gutteral grunts and roars that "singers" of Death Metal do these days. He had a set of vocal cords on him, and knew how to use 'em, you can bet.

A lot of theatrics in his videos and act, not as outlandish as KISS, not quite as gruesome as Alice Cooper - typical of Metal shows of the '80s, really.

YouTube - Ronnie James Dio-Holy Driver

YouTube - Black Sabbath Heaven and Hell

YouTube - RONNIE JAMES DIO -RAINBOW IN THE DARK

YouTube - Dio-The Last In Line

YouTube - 1983 Ronnie James Dio "Man On The Silver Mtn" (Rock Palace)

And you can't mention Ronnie without a little Tenacious-D thrown in the mix:

YouTube - Tenacious D feat Dio - kickapoo

And just one more:

YouTube - DIO feat. Tenacious D - Push

Saw him first in 78 with Rainbow, a few times over the 80 and 90's solo and finally with Sabbath er Heaven and Hell in Sunrise, Florida a few years back. Always put on a great show. Huge voice for such a small guy.

My father passed away from the same thing a few years back. Nasty disease. By the time you realize you have it, it is almost always too late.
