I know, I know....after all the fuss about my aftermarket cans why would I go back to stock?
Well the honest to God is that while the D&D's were quiet as far as aftermarket pipes go, they were still loud and I leave at 0500... Being a responsible guy I'm considerate of my neighbors. Beside that, I love the way the bike sounded but after the novelty wore off it just got annoying. I have worked in high noise environments at least 8 hours a day since I was 17, when not at work I like quiet in as many areas of my life as I can. Plus what's left of my hearing is sensitive to noise and the wind is bad enough, adding louder exhaust noise to that is less than pleasant. I'll lose a little performance, specially at higher engine loads but I put over 20k on the bike box stock and was quite happy with it. I actually bought the pipes on a whim and as I have done with every other aftermarket can I've bought and went back to stock fairly quickly every other time too. You'd think I'd learn........ Anyway, it's back to stealth mode, or at least as stealthy as a large guy in a Hi Viz riding suit can be.

Hmmm...this is interesting.
I've been hankering for a better sound on the Vee for a while now. I found a sound clip on the 2Bros site of my bike with their VALE M2s that was really nice, sort of a Cobra V8 sound. But it's $800 for the pipes and the PCIII. The peformance gain is so minor as not to matter really. And once the $800 is spent...

Well, at least you tried!
Did you punch the baffles out of the stockers?

I don't blame you I don't like loud bikes myself, they never saved anything responsible riding & good gear wouldn't prevent. Guess I'm not the attention-needing-look-at-me-I'm-on-a-motorcycle type. My bikes previous owner changed the pipes and I have no idea whats even on it (no engravings or labels I can see), but they are too loud for me. I live in a townhome community and often return home late & try to coast in. Even leaving daytime, I'm embarassed if the neighbors are home. I'd gladly trade someone for the stock pipes that are supposed to be on it. The by-laws to live here (cira 1980) state no motorcycles on the property at any time, but I don't think they can enforce that, and I don't want to invite problems with my owning one.

Luckily I got noise out of my system back in the muscle car days. Even back then it got old on a longer drive with my glass packs cut off in front of the axle. Sure would set off car alarms.
Add in wind noise and no thank you. That and I like it when my neighbors dont notice when I ride by. |
