Pretty harsh sentence for a victimless crime.

Don't be ridiculous. First off it is not illegal to have an "arsenal". You don't have to register an "arsenal". This is the usual media inaccuracy. You do have to register machine guns. Owning a machine gun as a private citizen is one of the more idiotic ideas. I know a guy who has a fully auto Thompson Subgun. He has 6 30 round mags. It costs almost $200 to load and fire those 6 mags. It takes about 2 minutes to fire those 6 mags if you are taking your time.

You do the math. The cost of firing a machine gun like that is approximately $6,000 per hour.

Never mind that in full auto your chances of actually hitting anything are much lower than semi-auto fire.

No, if you want fully auto capability you want to use a tripod mounted weapon. Like the M2 I have covering my perimeter.

It's not the machine guns that bother me, as much as the pipe bombs. Yikes!

Har!

"A subsequent search of Hilliard’s home turned up nine more guns, thousands of rounds of ammunition, a silencer and two pipe bombs, authorities previously said.

Hilliard told officers he removed the firearms (four machine guns and a few hundred rounds) from his home for safety reasons after a fight with his fiancee...

That's the kicker, also a ski mask and overcoat in Southern California?....what, for those brisk 70 degree winter days?.

The machine gun thing is a red herring, the media can call anything with a clip a "machine gun" unless it's capable of full auto fire it's just another semi automatic rifle no matter what style it is. Realistically you could do more damage with a model 700 Remmington and a decent scope than with any clip fed semiauto
