Reminds me of the commercials you see for a new drug being introduced and the side effects take longer to explain then the cure they provide. Now thats absured. How many races throughout time have already figured out thousands of alternative cures to all kinds of illnesses. Indians, Chinese, Hawaiians, amoungst a host of other cultures. Iam with Seru on this one cause Iv witnessed it first hand.
On the Con side of Eastern Medicine (and I stress the word "CON"), there's this POS who's my neighbor - he's a "Doctor" (in the loosest sense of the term) that pushes herbal remedies. Claims he can heal any disease in the world - like my Wife's MS, or a friend of mine's Mother's Cancer. He convinced my friend to take her completely off the care of her specialists, and proceeded to "cure" her with tea and mustard-plasters.

And then I started reading a bit MORE about this guy, and all the lawsuits he's involve with. And reading about all the complete and utter crap that a lot of these psuedo-doctors push.......

It was through my friend is the way I even found out he was a Quack.

There IS something to Eastern Medicine. But this F'er don't know what it is. But you have to be careful about who you go to. This is the poster-child for the "A little knowledge is Dangerous" saying.

Then again, I don't have a particularly high opinion of Western Quacks, either.

While I don't agree with whaling as an industry, if the origin country has not made it "illegal" then why are we the ones that must stop it. That type of interference does no country good. Do I mind that the speed boat got clipped. NO. I saw the video and it looks clear that the captain of that vessel was not totally in control of that boat- so tough noogies on him. I don't believe you can cry about the fisherman fighting back when they feel threatened. Sorry for the poor whales. Sorry that the Japanese culture still hangs onto the whaling industry. Not sorry for anyone interfering with someone elses livelyhood. If whaling were simply for malicious purposes my view would skew toward the speedboat but as it is the speedboat was the one that caused their problem.

Natch. You have to pay attention. It's not like there is a shortage of incompetent or sadistic medical doctors out there either. I had a pediatrician who was trying to put my daughter on anti-depressants for a backache once, fer crissakes. Needless to say I found a good one who found the actual cause. doctors are like auto mechanics. When you find a good one, stick with him. Don't ever tolerate a bad one. The profession itself will never police its ranks.

Although the whales and dolphins have largish brains, and demonstrate some interesting communicative and social skills, they are not all that intelligent. Comparable to your brighter dog, perhaps.

One could argue that the Bottlenose Dolphin ('Flipper' to you) has a BIG brain for his body size. True - it's big, but the majority of it is apparently used for echo-location (processing the sonar signals. Their system is so superior to the best we've built, it's not even in the same ballpark.)

Now, Octopus! THEY are smart!

And none of them pay people to tell them what to do. So who's to say who is smarter?

Einstein willed his brain to science when he died. There was great anticipation and everyone assumed that Einstein would have a much larger than average brain. It turned out that he had a smaller than average brain. Brain theories are nice and all that and people like to believe them but brain size is less important that most people think. People even lose chunks of brain in accidents and fully recover from time to time. After all, Joe Biden has an average sized brain and is a complete moron. Ever owned a ****atiel? Smart as dogs but such a tiny brain. Naw. It's a theory that people cleave to because it makes them feel better and they think it explains things.

So since dolphins have large brains they must be intelligent. We just aren't smart enough to communicate with them. LOL!

So long and thanks for all the fish.

"All God's creatures, FRESH from the grill!"

It's going to be a moot point soon enough anyway. The ocean fishermen have become so incredibly efficient that the fish most marine mammals eat will be gone in a few decades. In just the 20 years I've been fishing offshore I've seen a stunning decrease in fish, both on the weedlines and diving on the reefs.

Some whales might survive, the ones that eat krill and such.

They're F'n creepy smart. I've seen some of the films of them solving problems. {involuntary shudder}

I also went to an aquarium once near Seattle that had one in an open tank - you could buy food and feed it. The lil' 8-armed bandit actually slithered-up out of the water demanding food with its probing tentacles.............

Right! Whos dumber now, us or them?

I think as smart as humans are we still have a hard time living in harmony with the earth. And even though mostly all humans think we are smarter, youve got to really consider the effects us humans have on each other and our enviornment.
