Peru's mountain people face fight for survival in a bitter winter | World news | The Observer

Get this unhinged comment from an NGO looter: "The conduct of the authorities in relation to Peru's Quechua mountain communities is similar to the one they take to indigenous communities throughout the country, which is to ignore their problems because they don't believe that they are a priority," says Dr Enrique Moya, the former dean of Huamanga University, who now works with local NGOs which are running support programmes in the region.

"Religion is still a strong sedative in these communities, but although the first reaction to what they are facing might be fatalism – the feeling that they are in God's hands – we are starting to see a change.

"The difficulty is that the government only reacts when things turn violent, so I think what we have here is potentially an area of great conflict, because no matter how used to poverty they are, these people won't be left to die."

WTF is the Peruvian govt going to do about the weather? LOL! These kicked-in-the-head academics actually believe the govt can change the winter weather? ROTFL! Or wave a magic wand and fix everything?

If the notion of the gummint running healthcare is scary, the idea of them controlling the weather is crap-your-pants-tastic.

Did you hear about the idea of pumping sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere to cool the planet? No chance of causing an Ice Age there. And yeah, that's the same stuff they told us in the 1970s that we had to REMOVE to stop Global Cooling. Now they want to put it back. But that's OK - this time they're right. Really. Trust them.

I love the religion is a strong sedative comments. As if "belief" in GW isn't a phucking sedative.

OK, tell me how Peruvian-mountain Winters (known for their ferocity - I've read stories about them since I was a kid - you know "National Geographic" crap - the AGW-ers Bible) are any different this year over all those previous (which, BTW Peru is in the SOUTHERN F'N HEMISPHERE last time I czech'd................. they're in the middle of the "opposite season" from Winter right F'n now...........)
