I've got a white macbook and it still looks brand new after 2 1/2 years.

Maybe you should quit playing hockey with it.

The new ones are all aluminum anyway.

Mac. The computer for the mentally challenged. The Mac also has the second largest number of complete whackos next to the Global Warming crowd.

I'm not a big fan of Lenovos or Dells. I prefer HPs. Dells are inexpensive, but they're built cheaply too, at least the rackmount units are compared to HPs. My problem with Lenovos is that their Rescue and Recovery backup software has issues handling bare drives. HPs have their backup issues also, namely using too small of a recovery partition; works fine for a factory restore, but you have to finagle it if you want it to handle more than that. Toshiba laptops are pretty good, but they're a bit more expensive. You get what you pay for.

Likewise, uninstall McAfee or Symantec and use something like AVG from Grisoft, and Zonealarm. Much less resource-sucking apps. And you can get Free versions of both the ones I mentioned.
I have 2 gig ram and 180 hd. I use Sophos as my anti spam/virus protection in the current Toshiba. It's been hot-rodded but it's old and keys are starting to fall off.

Ive supported them all and bought them all. HP's are prone to hardware failure as we have been having them drop left and right, brand new and the website sux to download a driver. Dell is the easiest to support with the service tag number on support.dell.com. Ive bought over 12mil in Dell hardware over the years for work. Lenovo I havent heard anything bad about, just I never cared for the old IBM designs. Toshiba makes nice machines and so does Sony. Hard to go wrong, but stay away from an HP 25xx series.

Says the guy who has motorcycle parts strewn all over his garage.

I prefer to complete the task at hand rather than spending an entire day figuring out why my %&*(%&% computer won't work.

PC. The computer for the "M" of the S&M crowd. Best used while wearing a gimp mask and getting strap-on'ed by a BBW.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
