Being a liberal means being very generous with other people's money.

[Which reminds me - they're not "progressives", they're liberals. And it's not "climate change", it's global warming. Don't acquiesce to the Orwellian renaming of their discredited ideologies.]

"Progressive" was invented a century ago to take the place of "big govt socialist". It's the usual practice of calling yourself something that sounds different than what you really intend. Another example is "Environmentalist". It sounds better than "Misanthrope".

Ah, interesting. So they went from "socialist" to "progressive". Then their policies got that word discredited, so they co-opted the formerly respectable "liberal" (forcing libertarian types to specify that they are classical liberals.) Now that "liberal" has been discredited, it's back to "progressive", because everybody's forgotten about that one.

Kind of like the evolution of the word for the place in your house you do your business. First it was a water closet, then a toilet (because "toilet" was a classy French word for dressing up and primping), then a bathroom (again, nice word - a place where you bath). But now we talk about "bathroom humor." Which just goes to show that when it comes to toilets and liberalism, you can call it what you want, but it still stinks like sh*t.
