Hey there Gordon - the Colorado Front Range is awesome, but usually under snow this time of year....... if you pick and choose your dates, that could be the trip of a lifetime.

As to the FJR; it might be hard to find one of those for rent. For that matter, a lightly-used one might even present a challenge to obtain - but that's the way I'd roll, given the chance. Even if you couldn't send it back to Kiwi-land, I doubt it would present a huge challenge divesting yourself of the machine.

AirHawk speaks sooth. We are moving into winter weather now. I wouldn't want to schedule a motorcycle trip through the Rockies until late next spring. I live in Salt Lake city and it was snowing a couple of days ago.

You'll want to stick to Arizona and Coastal California this time of year. It's already snowed in Lake Tahoe this year.

I think Eagle Rider rents BMWs and Kawi Concours in addition to Harleys.I like the idea of a rental because if it breaks, you can return it and continue your tour. If you own the bike and it breaks you're outta luck until it's fixed.

The Rockies are wonderful. I did it myself. There was snow at higher elevations in mid-summer. I certainly wouldn't plan the Rockies now.

When you plan your eventual route, use The Weather Channel website to research the monthly temperature averages for the towns you're traveling through. It'll be towards the bottom of the page, under "Averages".

Ain't nuthin' more important than weather.

You're a cook? You can hang out at my place in Florida and use the Concours if you can make something other than hamburgers and spaghetti. I'm sick of my own cooking.
