Ain't that the truth. I remember predicting the same thing when ther Russians went in there. They couldn't pacify the Afghanis, even using chemical weapons.

Since Afghanistan is still a largely tribal society the European methods of setting up a puppet govt in the major cities has limited utility as we have seen. Bush's policy engaged the tribes and tried to bring them into the govt while allowing them to maintain most of their autonomy. That was smarter than the centralized control the earlier invaders used, but the Afghanis seem to hate each other more than they do foreigners. It's the same problem the Arabs have had with Israel. They can't work together. As soon as the foreign invader leaves they are back to slitting each other's throats.

I say just drill the crap out of our shorelines and the oil resources in the continental US (which are HUGE) and leave those medieval misogynists in middle east to alone to hack each other up with scimitars.

Works for me, energy independance and a sh*tload of family wage jobs. There's really no way for a modern society to deal with a middle ages mentality. not only are we not on the same page, we're not even reading the same book (no veiled religious inuendo intended)..

Let them sell their oil to China, it will clear the air to get them off coal.

You can't change a 3000 yo mindset. They teach their young from birth to be biggotted toward anything that doesn't come directly from the Koran. The young ones that manage to leave the country to get educated are their only hope.
