I can tell you all you need to know about a 1902 model Springfield, we had to pack those things around in boot camp: They weigh a f*cking ton...that's what you need to know. Specially when you're holding them at "Present Arms" for 1/2 an hour at a time, or doing a 16 count manual arms for a few hours in 90* heat.

Also when you're balancing on the stock and front sling doing push-ups for 2 hours they're liable to slip and give you a real case of bloody knuckles. also carrying them at port arms and jogging for 5 miles gets f*cking old in a hurry as well

All in all I'd say throw the god dam* thing in the nearest body of water and hope no one finds it and brings it back.

The thread I sicced you on had two important tidbits: Don't change it (which includes 'cleaning' it too well), and check the lug(s), as apparently they were prone to failure.
Thank you Sir, I'm just going to get the furry creatures out of it and oil it up well. The stock is still in pretty good shape and know better than to refinish anything old. The rear lug is still working fine but I'll let a trained eye go over it before taking it to the range.

And I can back up Sarnali's Heavy comment, but then again so am I...

You've got a drool-worthy Krag-Jorgensen. Don't f*** it up. Lightly clean.

It looks to be in better shape than the link I posted above. Only missing the strap and strap mount.

"1920fps with a 220gr bullet hurts like holy hell" is more likely.

The ones in boot camp had the barrels filled with lead. Not that the piece was a lightweight in the first place.

Careful adding that might make it a "clinton assault rifle"...

It'll make that 10/22 look 'tack-ticle,' you betcha! And it'll keep that front sight blade from trying to part your hair, what with that monstrous recoil and all.

However, it will mark the sight lug; so if the piece is clean, I wouldn't. I'm going to try and 'buff' out the marks on mine with some 150 (or so) grit paper.

Dad's is the stainless/composite 10-22. How much you want for it?
