Hell, most of the large OTR companies use satellite to track and dispatch trucks, with a dash-mounted text-screen as the primary interface between Driver and Dispatcher. My Parent company is no exception - though they've banned entirely the use of cells for talking or texting while in motion: it's a 1-strike-you're-out violation.

Does the screen/system go non-responsive when the vehicle is moving?

My MIL's Lexus features that on the Navigation/etc. screen. More than 5 mph, and it will not accept inputs.

Which is great, 'cause operating that thing is very involved. Especially for her.

I don't believe so. It might prevent them from responding - but I DO know they receive messages while in motion (my Father-in-Law used to drive OTR for them, and told me so).

It has been illegal in CA for quite a while now and I still see lots of people doing it. I have noticed now that the cops pull over when they are talking on their cell phones. Previously, it was not uncommon to see the law driving around chatting on the cell phone.

I laughed when I was in Venice because the Vaparetto driver was hauling around a boatload of people and texting at the same time.

Does CA allow headsets or speaker phones while driving?

In FL, not only do the cops talk on the cell phone, they have laptop computers mounted so they can operate them while they drive, which they do. This afternoon on the way home there was a Broward Sheriff doing 85+ by himself in the HOV lane talking on his cell. I don't expect cops to be perfect, but geez, at least don't flaunt the law in front of thousands of motorists.

We have headsets which deliver the Dali Obama's and Nancy Pelosi's demands directly into our heads.

I just put a solar panel on my son's head. It hurt his back which isn't covered under the gov't health plan so he must be planted out back above ground so the solar panel will still work.

What did you ask?

They have those here, too. Waiting for the first computer caused crash to make the news.

Why would they change just for you, Ken?
