Default Stupid Street Bike

I visited Dear Old Mom this weekend, and while I was up at the grocery getting her birthday cake, I snagged the only non-Harley bike magazine on the rack: Super Street Bike.

Super Street Bike is essentially a 98 page advertisement for parts, accessories, and related merchandise in support of the Busa Blingmobile lifestyle. There are pages and pages of ads for 330 series swingarm and wheel kits, chrome covers to fit over every non-moving part of a Hiya Busa, spiked doo-dads, and my personal favorite: "Sexy Gear...For Sexy Bikes," which features an attractive young woman wearing a shirt, but no pants.

Even the articles are simply lists of parts installed to create the latest 43' bling bike. One article called DIY Bolt-On Bling managed to mention 14 vendors, each one of which, by pure coincidence, happened to have ads in the same magazine.

I guess there's nothing wrong with all this. The only part that really annoyed me was the ad for the Sexy Gear was so small. Next time they need to run a full page.

Sounds like Easy Riders on rice paper.

It USED to be helmed by a friend of mine: Aaron.P. Frank. When he Ed-Chiefed it (we affectionately called it Soupa' Squidbike), it was filled with quite a bit more than ad-fluff - it was essentially a "Report from the Underground". Since Double-A left, it's not even been close to anything but a parts-catalog. I let my sub go over two years ago.

Has anyone checked out Dirt Bike magazine lately? 100 pages of advertisements for $1,200.00 Ti exhaust cans, white MX boots and "buy this part and have your dealer install it" pap. Like Esquire for dirt bikes. I fully expect to see ads for scented body wash and lime spritzers. Sickening.

So, SSB is just the new form of Big Bike mag except it's sportbike bling instead of AAE and D&D chopper bling. And the bikes become just as rideable when they are done.

"With a pavement pounding phat 330 out back, Todd's rollin with the respect he deserves. And the cromotitaniocarbinate frame covers make sure everybody knows his bite is as bad as his bling."
