Good point 12er. If we had marked it down as a punative raid and left it at that we would have been out in days.

What would have happened after that? Probably the same thing that happened after the Russians left and we didn't hit them with a Marshall Plan.

I admit I applauded the take and hold ground action by the Marines. If your going to "nation build" and you don't provide the folks security/stability no matter how ****ed up it is, they will go to who ever will. Look up Maslow's hierarcy of needs. It's tough to think of democracy when the Taliban, et al return just as soon as the dust from the occasional motorized patrol settles. Let's not kid ourselves.

Like seruzawa say's, take away the money and they go back to potting each other with Enfields. Not our business anyway

I guess they figure turnabout is fair play. After we made Afghanistan a living hell for their military with stingers and the like I'm sure they would like us to be bogged down there like they were.

Somewhere in the bowels of the Kremlin as they prepare to watch the live feed from Laguna Seca via spy satellite. " A toast to Afghanistan, more chilled vodka now!", "Yes Mr. Putin, your Czarness.".

They have a 250 rider now. What's next Ural in WsBk?

Yes, those commies are making a big comeback in places like France, Holland, Denmark and other socialist havens. It just shows you the majority of the world could give a good ghodamn about freedom if you've got enough idiots willing to follow the other lemmings over the cliff.

More Vodka and cannibis bars for all you working mass fools.

Hi Guys,

Well, just for fun, imagine that Roosevelt had stated that "our enemy is not the German people, only the Nazi government". All the Wehrmacht would have to do is to go to civvies, and how would we have found them?

My point is that those Taliban fighters have families. They have sworn by their silly god to kill non-believers (that's us). Turnabout being fair play, how about if we forget about winning anyone's "heart and mind", and start winning wars instead. Take out the poppy fields, take out the caves, take out the villages. Make them so damned tired of being bombed and shot at that they are willing to stop acting like savages, and worry about staying alive instead of how to kill Americans....or until we run out of Afghan targets, whichever comes first.

It may be 19th Century patriotism, it may be just because this is the 4th of July, but I think one American soldier is worth more than all of Afghanistan. Perhaps we shouldn't be there, but they harbored the b*stards who hit the Towers, so we have a reason, unlike Iraq. And as long as we are there, why not try doing the job, instead of trying to make ambassadors out of combat troops?

It's true that historically, they have been very hard to control. But up until the present, the technology hasn't been available to either side: we use it, and they depend on it, too. Those poppies don't magically become drugs in New York--there is vulnerable technology. We can erase those fields any time we choose to do so. Poof. Gone. Gee--the poor farmers are starving? Tough.

Mao said that the guerrilla is a fish and the people are the sea in which the fish must swim. Dry up the sea. Do whatever it takes to win, or give it up now and come home, knowing that a cancer is growing, and will eventually hit us again.

Ever since Korea and Truman (and the UN), we have been content to lose wars. "Limited objectives" and "police actions" have replaced "winning". I like winning. It feels good. Let's either win or stop getting our young people killed.

Sorry for the long post---I do get going....

Amen Barb. Either go in with both barrels or don't go in at all. We don't understand or fathom "total war" anymore, and as long as we keep putting that western yardstick on eastern societies, this is what you're gonna get.

Just ask the English, 1838 to 1863 "in country" getting their asses kicked.

"When shot and left wounded on Afghanistans plains, and the wimmen come out to cut up what remains, jest roll to yer rifle, an' blow out yer brains. And go to yer God like a soldier."
