Too bad Shinseki will ony be remembered for the F*%#in beret. He was a big proponent of transforming the Army and was spot on in his assessment on the number of troops needed to take down and then pacify the country. If they had listened to him they would have had roughly 50,000 more troops than the total that made up the surge.

Hopefully as the Secretary of the VA he'll have the support he needs.

Man, I HATED that beret. Made us all look like some tinpot dictator's army.

Now, I see they're getting rid of the green uniform, replacing it with, get this, the Army blue uniform. The "class B" uniform will be blue trousers with white shirt. They'll lok like French waiters.

We should just pay-up and become subject-members of the UN. The UN will protect us. I know, I know - people have claimed that they've been ineffectual in the past - but this is a NEW Presidency, and I have the Audacity to Hope for Change.

Berets? The green and maroon ones were cool. Never should have taken the black from the Rangers. When they were earned they meant something.

Ya wanna laugh at a hat. Rember the green baseball cap? Picture that with jump wings on it.

A usefull hat is still a dream . The patrol cap should be the default headgear, even though I would rather the "boonie hat" correct nomenclature "Hat Sun, Hot Weather.

Thanks for the first good head shaking laugh of the day. This is another good idea that has become mired in ****.

The one thing that really means something is the CIB.

I agree with you there. Best looking uniform the army had. The beret is not a bad choice for dress uniforms, sure beat the c@*& cap, but for every day use it sucked.

I agree with you to a point. Imagine a Soldier thrown into an operational infantry unit who isn't awarded a CIB like all the other members of his fire team because the reqs require holding that MOS. Or imagine the red legs performing foot patrols, sweeps through an area or clearing buildings. Things are conveluded at best. There are still the bs moves associated with the CAB. All depends on the S-1 on who gets what, the percentages dictated by higher ect.... Only the individual and peers know the real deal. Unfortunately the chicken **** ones are often worn by those whose whose sense of right and wrong are much different from, I suspect, those here today.

I'm thinking that in todays environment an "Action Badge" worn on A and B uniform might make more sense. Isn't that how the Navy and their minions do it?

I hear the Navy is going to cammies as well for utilities and the standard uniform being a khaki shirt and black pants and garrison cap. I guess they're supposed to look like Marines now. When I was in we couldn't wear cracker jacks anymore, we had to wear Salt n Peppers which weren't too bad or the suit and tie uniform for Elmo's "One Navy, One Uniform" push, looked fine with gold braid all over, kinda lame on an enlisted man. At least they're keeping craker jacks for a full dress uniform

Our at sea uniform was seafarers and a chambrey shirt w black ball cap, except for Engineering which was mean green coveralls w/ a black ball cap or later we got blue Watchstander coveralls and black ball cap. Now it looks like either the BDU type or blue coveralls is it........times do change I guess
