Default Random Stuff

We rode out to the park this morning before the rain rolls in. I like handing out marketing stuff for my pals at AdMoreLighting.com and checking out the bikes.

There was a *****in Ducati based on the GT1000, sort of like the Paul Imola Special but done in bronze/gold. Schweet. There was a Raider too. I still think it's as ugly as a bucket of assholes. Honda should buy one and park it next to their Fury at every dealership. They'll sell droves of Fury (Furies? Furrys??) that way.

Buell has been bombarding me with emails for demo rides, so we went by there and I rode an 1125 around the lake. Very strange bike, it's on rails no doubt, but it's hard to get it to kick into the turns without countersteering. My VFR handled better, IMO. I think the Viffer was at least as fast too, 350ccs notwithstanding.

Cool video of the XR being built: h t t p://w w w.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/2009_Motorcycles/2009_Motorcycles.jsp?locale=en_US#/model/xr1200 (edit the URL)

They had a black XR 1200. I was all prepared to be unimpressed. What a NICE bike that it. HD tweaked every single inch of the Schporster to make it. All of the body components are custom to the bike, the suspension is to die for, the exhaust goes on forever, the engine has this powder-coating that...well. I'm going to go by and demo ride it next week if I can.

I like the XR1200, too.

The rear master cylinder guard will get you right in the ankle, though.

Yeah, I can see that. The oil cooler takes some getting used to as well, but it's clearly functional.

Did you know the Rocker is done? 2 years of production and it's done. Might be a collector's item, who knows?

I'm not surprised. Everyone is trying to put a good face on it but bike sales are abysmal this year. Model reductions are a given. I've always still liked the plain old Dyna Low Rider the more than any other Hog.

I rode a Rocker in the MO test and liked it a lot. It was really beautifully turned out but I thought it was just too late in the game for this kind of bike. The bike world was going towards bobbers and the like.

We'll see how long the Fury hangs around.

Heard that the Road Glide will be gone for 2010 as well, though there is a chance it will be updated and be back in the future.

What? Wow, that sucks. I took one to the Keys and loved it. It's fairing and ride are much better than the "standard" FLHTCs in my opinion. There's a Screamin' Eagle version this year that is gorgeous.

Speaking of random stuff, why was a crazed man preparing to give a speech in Milwaukee? I thought crazy people were more extemporaneous speakers.

You know, you hear different accounts of the Road Glide fairing. Some guys claim the buffeting drives them crazy and others (like you), say it's totally calm.

I've only ridden a Road Glide up and down the beach here so I can't really say for sure.

The lighter steering would be a bonus for sure.
