Is it tyranny or extortion? Both, in this case, would be similar. I think extortion or coercion are better terms for traffic offenses.

Hi Guys,

Thing is, the same people who don't like so many cops around are the same ones who want to disarm the general population and have us all rely on 9-1-1 calls to save us. So do we cut police forces and rely on ourselves, or do we put up with a polite but in-charge police-state that supports itself by ticketing?

It helps to live in a small county for a long time--you get to know the guys, and they will take it easy--maybe just go past and give you a "Slow down" hand-sign instead of ruining your day. In the city, strangers don't care, and have to generate that revenue.

If the down-turn continues long enough, lots of people might just discover that they can live without "necessities", and can get along just fine by relying on themselves, rather than municipal services----special bus routes, cops on every corner, and of course, my personal favorite; everything in Spanish as well as English. (Don't *even* get me going!!)

As for the individual cop--he's trying to keep his job. Wanna complain---it's been said: go to the commissioners or city manager or whoever and vote them out.

Just my 5 Euro's worth.....

Coercion is when Tony Soprano does it. When the govt does it it's tyranny, simply because it's "legal".

Hey Sarnali, what world you you live in? Whan a cop says you are speeding, then you are speeding regardless if you are or not. You WILL lose in court. I have had cops make shyt up as they went along just because I was riding a certain type of bike and they got away with it. I still got the ticket too. I will follow ANY of you guys around for less than 10 miles and I could ticket you for something. Anything. It would be up to you to take a day off of work and get a lawyer to fight it, or just send in the cash. What would you choose? The GOV already knows.

I live in the real world, If I'm doing 50 in a 35 and a cop pulls me over what am I going to cry about?. I don't think cops are perfect. I've been spread eagled over the hood of a cop car with a Glock stuck in my ear, held by a cop who was so scared his hands were shaking. If that don't put the fear of God in you nothing will, all because my dumb-ass bro-in-law had a locked and loaded .380 in his boot and wanted to drag race me through town.

I've also got popped doing 90+ on the freeway and got off with a warning and had the cops bring my run-away daughter back home when they found her hanging out with some tweekers... There's good and bad in everyone, this particular article is about getting cracked down on speeding so guess what, don't speed, don't make a spectacle of yourself with loud pipes and lame brain antics and the 90% of the time cops won't even look at you.

I guess I will ignore all the times I wasn't speeding on the sportbikes I owned, yet was pulled over on numerous occasions to get yelled at or issued a bullshyt ticket by those same officers that you claim don't do such things. I wish you were at my last stop with my Busa where I got screamed at for 30 minutes and got issued 2 tickets that were lies. This was while commuting on a stock motorcycle with zero lame brained antics. It was the BIG reason I sold it.

The actual purpose of a justice system is to create a society calm enough so that people can go about their lives. If all peace officers and courts conducted themselves on that basis we'd have a better system. Instead it's been perverted by greed and people with control issues. Far too often cities see the police force as a source of revenue. They rename them "Law Enforcement" instead of the traditional "Peace Officer" label. This encourages the attitude of seeing the public as something to be feared and controlled rather than helped. This makes the city involved in such shenanigans as using the police to raise revenue an enemy of its own people. It may be pie in the sky to believe that a govt entity should put the interests of its residents before its own aggrandizement but I still think it is a worthy goal.

well ya look like a criminal, what do you expect.........

I don't have an answer for that, after I got stopped it was full on harrassment from then on, I couldn't even start my bike without the pigs pulling me over. At that time the Bandidos had just moved into Washington and got caught running machine guns, from then on it was open season on bikers. It was my bad luck to be associated with my dipsh*t bro-in-law and his 1%'r gun fantasies at the time all the other stuff blew open.

In Wa. an assembled m/c has to be inspected by the State Patrol, you take your reciepts for every nut and bolt on the bike, the WSP runs the engine and frame numbers and you get a Green Tag rivited to the frame. If any of your numbers show up on a data base they impound the bike and you're f*cked.

I lived in Auburn then which is notorious for having an "enthusiastic" police dept. If they want to pester you they pull you over for such BS as "tail light too low" or "handlebars too high" or "loud pipes" or any other crap they can come up with that gives them a chance to check you for wants and warrents and run the numbers on your bike. Each time I got ticketed for equipment violations I subpoenad the WSP Inspector who Green Tagged the bike and he pretty much did my work for me. After awhile they were told to find someone else to f8ck with and they left me alone, even though they still followed me through town, parked in front of my house and sh*t like that.

Anyway I know the kind of ass-holes the cops can be but I also know that not all of them are that way..... so there you are..
