He didn't decide this based on F1. Yamaha needs someone that they can rely on to get the 800 cc bike developed before racing begins next season. What you're not hearing is the fact that he is now the weathiest motorsports racer in the world. Yamaha ponied up the big bucks to keep him one more season.

Just a question. Why are they going to 800cc bikes when the strett uses 1,000cc machines? The only 800cc I know of is a Honda Interceptor. Although a great bike, I do not think they will be raced anytime soon. And I loved the 1,000cc bikes in all classes they are used.
