The older car is a larger displacement V-10 vs. the new car which is a smaller V8.

I have to admit, when I first heard Vale was thinking of taking on F1, I was excited. The thought that Rossi could extend his already legendary status to four wheels (and for Ferrari no less) seemed like a surreal dream.
But upon reflection and hearing this news, I wonder what I was thinking. What motorcycle rider/race-fan in their right mind would want the greatest rider in the history of the sport to leave and play glamour boy in a cage? Compared to MotoGP riders, F1 drivers are overpaid and overhyped nancies rolling around safe and secure in overpowered go-karts with PlayStation consoles for controls.
Is Rossi scared, looking for a way out of F1? I doubt it. I think Vale just got tired of floggging Sete and Max week in and week out, he was bored and over it (as were most race fans). '06 is an entirely different year. It reminds me of when MJ left Hoops for Minor league baseball (though I think Rossi would have been more successful in F1 than Michael was in baseball). I think the high level of talent of this latest group of young guns (Pedrosa, Stoner, Hayden, Melandri) and the challenges he as had with the 2006 M1 have rekindled the fire in Vale.
Whatever the reason really is, MotoGP fans should just enjoy their good fortune.
|
