E.C. Birt, super two-stroke tuner and all around nice guy passed away Marh 7th 2012 at the age of seventy two.
If anyone remember his days at Precision Cycle in Lawndale, California, that's when EC was in his element, grinding ports and building chambers for the hottest running race bikes of the day. When I wanted more power for my anemic AT1MX in 1972, EC took a CT1 175 cylinder and punched it out to 200cc's with a cold forged single ring dragster piston, along with a through the frame pipe that was a work of art. He also milled two more finger transfer ports into the piston port cylinder, making it a seven port top end. Needless to say my slow AT1 was turned into a rocket by the knowing hands of E.C. Gods speed E.C. you will be missed.

Matt,
Never knew of the man, but I appreciate your kind words. I hope he rests in peace, and his family is blessed. And shipmate, don't be such a stranger...

Yeah, he wrote for our website "Ask EC". He sent me some jokes and stuff two days before he died, so it must have been sudden. He left a giant passel of kids, grandkids and great grand kids behind, and had a burgeoning business hopping up four stroke go kart engines, even had some patents on race carbs. Quite a man. He could build the best looking expansion chambers on earth, had a gift. My AT1 could keep up with 360's after he massaged it.

My great uncle Gabe was known as a two-stroke guru back in the day.
My dad said people from all over LA used to bring their bikes to him. I just took the Cuddymobile for a 5 mile ride he other day! Scary! |

Buz, did you have to pick up any parts that vibrated off? Remember these words "Saftey Wire".....
Still have that ported cylinder and the BIG CARB if you want it....
