I've been living in Korea for several years and can tell you first hand that saving face is a very big deal.
One shining example would be the RC45. Honda has definitely tried saving face with their V4's. Throwing so much money at it just so once they won they could dumped it on their shelf faster then the boys could unload it off the truck.

You are Mistaken. The V-4 is the Chosen engine-configuration of God Himself, due to its inherent Superiority in all aspects of its characteristics.

Do not attempt to confuse the issue with Facts and Data........

He's got you there Mokester, The V4 Honda engine is indeed the epitome of spark induced piston engines. In fact it's a good thing the Japperneese didn't have them in their A6M3 Type O's back in the 40's or we'd all be eating our sushi and gyozo with chopsticks instead of...well...our finger I guess....

On the Honda front.... the latest from the dudes where I get my chainsaw chains sharpened.

Some guy comes in asking if they work on Honda mowers. The counter guy sez, " Oh yeah. We work on lots of 'em? Is it an older one? Because the new ones ain't so good any more."

Heh heh.

My wife's Element at 100,000 miles had the following go wrong:

#1: Front suspension collapsed at an intersection close to home, car had to be towed to shop. Cost $4,000.00 to replace ALL front end parts. A ams, control arms, upper and lower bushings (that are built into the control arms, so you have to buy the whole unit, just not the bushing).

#2: Starter motor $550.00. Have to take half the motor apart to get to the starter. That means the intake manifold, steering gear (rack & pinion rack) drop both half shafts.

#3: Electrical gremlins that send false signals to the ECM, causing the car to stall, hard starting and other nonsense. Turns out it was the electric idle motor (!?) that only cost $400.00, part of the fuel injeciton. $300.00 to instal. So that totaled $800.00.

I remember my old '76 Civic went 200,000 miles, still looked and ran like new. Same goes for any Honda motorcycle built before 1978.

Honda has lost any quality it once had, and now produces sub-standard vehicles in my opinion.

Never again.
