Yes, and that's why you see three year old CRF450's in Cycle News for $2,500.00. As my Honda mechanic buddy says, "give 'em a valve lap job, change the oil and sell it to some kid before it explodes..."

Sorry, but the thought of purchasing a new $9,000.00 450 four stroke, no mater how trick and fantastic it is, and after 15 hours or so of hard riding, having to dump another two grand into the top end is not my idea of progress. And that is no lie. No fabrication. It is fact.

"Navy Curses" eh? You must have been a Dirt Bike reader at one time...

Nice test anyway, at least SOMETHING wasn't perfect (forks, abrupt power, starting)...

I have to agree, $2k for a top end evey 15 or 20 hours is ridiculas I don't care how trick the bike is. That's all good if you have a factory ride, paying out of pocket is out of the question.

And they a f***ing lying again about the weight. We got a buddy's '08 CFR 450 over at the sealed and tested by the weights & measure folks recycling scales in Sunland, and it weighed 255 lbs. with half a tank of hi-test.

Just wait for the new "NO BS" website soon to appear at a computer near you. If the factories won't give us a bike to test, we buy one (deep pockets are backing it). Can't wait to rip apart one of those new BMW based Huskys...big porkers I hear through the grapevine.

Ahh, truth is so...at a loss for words here...cleansing...refreshing. No Racer-X smit here folks, just de troof.

They've got Huskys on a 6 months no payments no interest deal right now. There's a brand new (6 months old) BMW/Husky dealer a mile away. Man, did they pick a bad time to start a high end motorcycle dealership.

WR450 is all you need to know for all your basic off road needs. Silly power, unbreakable reliability. They are a bit heavy, but they work well.

Talk about heavy. My poor DRZ400S. 4,000 hard core off road miles in the gnarliest terrain I can find with no maint needed except the usual oil changes every 400 miles or so, and filter cleanings and annual suspension service. It just keeps running! It has even done some table tops at the MX track. I love my big yellow pig. This CR, on the other hand, appears to be too much. A man has got to know his limitations...

I have an '01 CR250 too. It has needed about as much maint as the DRZ. It too just keeps running. Modern liquid cooled two strokes are all but unbreakable from what I can tell.

I had the ORIGINAL porker '83 XL600S Honda that handled great, for about 10 minutes before the overtaxed 39mm forks and pro-stink Showa got all overheated and flummoxed, and then spit you off at the next road-berm. And landed on you. I still have the burn marks from the twin head pipes on my back.

I was an unstoppable hil climber though. Would go up a brick wall if you could get the traction. Even went right up "The Wall" at Gorman in 3rd gear.

See? Four strokes are good for something.
