Dirt racing is probably the place where the electrics would have a definite advantage. What with the max torque at zero rpm that the electrics develop.

Limited range is still the probelm, at least for trail riders.
I would be interested to see exactly what kind of race this was. I can't find a detailed write-up anywhere.
