according to my (no doubt unreliable inaccurate) sources, 11% of French population dead or wounded in WW1, and 620,000 war widows. Crap, no wonder they don't like to fight so much anymore!

I vaguely remember the "fact" that the average height of the French male dropped 5 inches as a result of the Napoleonic Wars.

I'd imagine the average running speed of the French male doubled as a result of WWI and WWII.
