Wow. That is a great photo. And I don't mean to impugn your reportage, but it

wasn't taken in Islamabad.

It was an easy mistake, what with all the conflicting reports currently coming out of the region.

The photo was actually shot in the nearby republic of Knevelstan. Wheelies are a regular

ritual when one scores a goal in the national sport, which is much like the now well-known

game buzkashi played next door in Afghanistan. The Kneveli have their own homegrown,

internally combusted version, which involves CB125-mounted competitors dragging around

the carcass of a Bajaj scooter. Rumors are, Speedvision is going to carry the whole 2002 season

as part of their new programming slogan, "Helmets and Leathers Are for Pussies."

That's what I heard down at my neighborhood Motobecane dealership, so it must be true.

1. By the function of this one picture, I have spent the last half-hour laughing and cheering myself into a state of advanced facial soreness. But I'm still smiling.

2. I've sent it to eight close friends and relatives, captioned as "John Locke plus Evel Knievel plus Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan equals Duuude, nice form."

3. I'm now considering the idea of a deeply satisfying career as the import agent for Shoei, Arai, Vanson, and Dainese in Central Asia. Please address resumes for sales staff and/or Farsi and Urdu interpreters to me, c/o MO.

If we just distributed an KLR650 to every family in Afghanistan, people would be too busy having fun to worry about supporting some crazy's jihad. Do you know how many KLRs you can buy for the price of one cruise missile or B-2?

I'm waiting for the safety nazis to write he should not wheelie without a helmet and proper safety gear! Perhaps instead of sending brainwashed American kids from Waco over there to spread Christianity, they will insist on sending representatives to teach them about motorcycle safety.
