Default U.S. Health system ranks last but spends the most

On measures of quality, the U.S. overall ranked 5th out of 6 countries. The U.S. ranked fifth in coordinated care, and last in patients reporting that they have a regular doctor (84% vs. 92%-97% in other countries).

Speed cameras highlight the lie that speed enforcement is about public safety, not revenue enhancement. Presumably, if you're speeding, you're a threat to public safety, but that threat would only exist while you're actually in the act. How much of a threat are you if the gov't is content to deal with you by sending you a ticket in the mail? Perhaps they do have something in common with the French after all.

The same kind of thinking that gives jb just the two options: France and the Left Coast.

Which part of INfertility vs tax revenue generation don't you understand?

Please don't cloud the conversation with an artificial comparison of infant mortality rates and the despicable (other) births.

Unless you're prepared to offer both social and cultural solutions to a non-governmental problem.

Default French value engineers over lawyers thus nuke plants are cool

"Part of their popularity comes from the fact that scientists and engineers have a much higher status in France than in America. Many high ranking civil servants and government officials trained as scientists and engineers (rather than lawyers, as in the United States), and, unlike in the U.S. where federal administrators are often looked down upon, these technocrats form a special elite. Many have graduated from a few elite schools such as the Ecole Polytechnic. According to Mandil, respect and trust in technocrats is widespread. "For a long time, in families, the good thing for a child to become was an engineer or a scientist, not a lawyer. We like our engineers and our scientists and we are confident in them." That's how you get a Le Corbusier. Worked out real well, didn't it? I'll put my trust in entrepreneurs, thanks. It's worked out well for us.

Since you're so obsessed with ticking time bombs, look up the native French birthrate, pension obligations and banlieues, to name a few. You're as ignorant of other nations as you are your own.

Because for some inexplicable reason, we seem to always want to bail the French out. Okay, that's a bit simplistic, but I find it terribly ironic that one of the main roots of the problems in most of these regions is European colonialism. Now, of course, after establishing the current state of affairs, many in Europe think the U.S. is to blame for everything.
