What I miss in the discussions here is the handling advantages of the Yam.

The big Suuz svcks bigtime when it comes to corner handling and suspension.

Default High dyno figures

Someone posted that the dyno figures for both bikes were 8-10 hp higher than they would have expected. For what it's worth, Dale Walker dynoed his stock 2001 Bandit at 94 hp at the rear wheel but British website MCN reports 108 hp, 74 ft.lb of torque, the same has this site. Anyone know of any other sites that report dyno figures for these bikes?

The only real way to compare dyno figures is to

use the same dyno for both bikes, different dyno's,

and different operators, not to mention different

climates on different continents, all affect output.

I am still irate. Why? 74 pounds.

The FZ1 is 74 pounds heavier than an R1. I know, steel makes for more weight in a frame. I know, adding nice passenger accomodations adds weight. But 74 freaking pounds? I could see 20 or 25, but not 74.

Yeah, I know that it is still lighter than the others. I know that the R1 is really light. I know that the FZ is a lot cheaper than an R1. But Yamaha had an opportunity to do something really special and they came out a little half-assed.

All that stated, these seem like pretty damned fun bikes. Especially the ZRX. 75+ ft-lbs from 3500-8000 RPM.

BTW, as for the handling, one of my race team mates takes his B12 and embarrasses the GSXR crowd on track days. These bikes can be hustled about.

On the Bandit dyno numbers, remember they updated the engine for 2001 so the dyno numbers are reasonable. That said this 1998 B12 owner would get a B12 over the others again. The B12 simply has more power on tap where you use it. Top-gear roll-on numbers for the B12 beat just about everything else on the road. I use mine for commuting and sport touring (I'll scrap a peg or two). By the time you get to the FZ-1's extra power you'll be exceeding most city speed limits in 1st and every speed limit in the country in 2nd.

Think Sport Tourer not crotch rocket.

The B12's suspension does suck, but that can be fixed and still be cheaper than the others. I personlly don't like the ZRX-1200 ergos. The engine casings near the pegs are wider and one side sticks out farther than the other.

BTW, I've got the GIVI's on mine and love them. You won't be dissipointed. Look for the E36 Juniors. The cost about a lot less than the fancy models but have the same functional features. I got my rack and 2 36 liters cases for $325.

Dale Walker's dyno had the '01 Bandit at 100 hp at the wheel, not 94. Let's get with the program here, you're quoting figures from the old Bandit.

No it doesn't, suspension on the '01 B12 is VERY good. You are thinking of the '96-'00 Bandit, that's the bike with the soft suspension. Suzuki fixed that on the '01 model.

Default Re: Dyno Shootout: FZ1 vs. all, Please include old bikes to.

I hear of a much anticipated shootout between the FZ-1, Bandet 1200, and the ZRX1100.

If possible I will want to also see the Honda V65 Sabre. FJ1200, GS1150GS, and GPz1100, etc.

I am VERY interested to see any progress.

The new BIG standard bikes seems to be a very hot area!

To try to keep on the subject, I am thinking more of getting a Bandet than a FZ1 or ZRX. The power is better for touring.
