Notice how its always the previous owner that did the bonehead stuff?



I've bought and sold parts off CL and I use KBB and Edmunds to set some kind of ballpark price for vehicles but that's all it is, ballpark.



The bottom line is a bike or car is worth what you can get someone to pay for it, nothing more. If you keep that fact in mind you probably won't do too bad but inflating your price so they can "work you down" is stupid. Unless you're dealing with atotal idiot he's just going to go for the better more realistically priced vehicle in the first place.

The only downside to the NADA books is that the one the dealers get is not the same as the one you can buy. You have to steal one off the salesmans desk while he's "working with the sales manager to get you the best price Bro"....

Correct. Willing buyer-willing seller. That's why I think ebay listings in the last five minutes are a pretty good indication of retail value, if you add a very small discount back in to represent the fact that the transaction is sight unseen.
