Well, me & my bretheren may well be wankers but: you are correct, flight IS open to private enterprise.

But where are the contracts? That $$ goes to NASA.

If you bid it out, they will come. And it will happen a LOT faster than you ever imagined.

You do follow the bizjet scene and see what is happening there with "out of the box" thinking, don't you?

Hint: read Rich Kaarlgard.

Default All that is needed is new engine for the Buell

Wouldn't a Buell Firebolt/Lightning with a modern Suzuki like 90 degree V-Twin and a great tranny do the trick? I think most experts like the other stuff on the Buell, frame, chasis, etc. It's the engine that always keeps it from being a really great bike...

Are you familar with aerospace contracts? The original shuttle was built by Rockwell (Boeing bought them latter) via a bid... Don't you remember the line in the Right Stuff (my favorite movie) about Mercury... I think Alan Shepard says " no I am not nervous because I am sitting on machine put together by the lowest bidder"

Default Re: Can u be more specific?

To put is as simply as possible; I'd like to see a Buell type bike with a Ducati/RC51 Type engine. (a little more power, but not busa type power) The Brembo's like are on the new street rod. Chain final drive on the sport version. Maybe even shaft final drive on a sport touring version. I'm looking for usability above all. Something that can be ridden hard and put away wet without foundering.

Like I say, Buell is coming way close. In fact I think they may have me with the new stuff their coming out with.

Some do-dads like heated grips, and a power accessory outlet would be cool too. (Sounding like a beemer rider here aren't I)

Like I said, the Gov doesn't have to control it. In Illinois, you can get your license by taking a weekend MSF course, and just do the paperwork at the DMV. It would be cool if the Gov stepped aside and let motorcycists train and license ourselves. Not that they would, but it's an alternative.

I'd like to see this too! Let's bring in the boy and girls that actually build and sell these things.

I'd like nothing more than to be able to talk directly to them!!

I typically don't post anything once the helmet thread gets going.

I'll wait until KP starts giving more weightlifting advice. I can't get enough of that!

So you think building a cutting edge model that needs to be totally re-designed every two years and doesn't sell in huge numbers is a good way to make money?
