Hey the best in that range is still the Yamaha 650 Special...a real classic.

in its own right.

Mostly street, although a little track time is always needed. Get every 600 you can lay hands on for the shootout: Triumph, Bimota (I would say that), and the usual forgotten suspects.

here's how i would ride a 600; and i assume you mean a gsx-r or cbr, etc:

i would commute on it during the week, and then alternate weekends at the track or sport touring in the canyons. occasionally i would throw in a longer tour.

so 1/3 commute, 1/3 street sport-riding/touring, 1/3 track time.

sound right?

If you weigh in on street and touring, my yzf600r will win.

Use track and street, and use a variety of riders including

Danielle. With lots of pictures too. Go for a 3 or 4 hundred mile ride also.

Default Forgotten suspect

Yea street is the most important factor when reviewing any type of sport bike out there because it's the place where you spend almost 95% of your time if you are an average motorcyclist. I bought a Yamaha YZF600R as my first bike last year and today I can say without any doubts it was the perfect bike for my lack of experience.Even though I would rather want a sportier r1, It sure did save my butt numerous times and with a sportier meaner bike like the all new praised 1000Gixxer I am convinced I would'nt be here to tell about it today (at least practically unscratched). So reviewing a wider range of "forgotten suspects" is definetely a must for a complete 600cc shout out.

This sounds about right, two winners. One track and one street / tour. We all love to hear about the track but 95% never have the time or the cash to make it. Street / tour is where its at for the majority of riders.
