At least he had the decency to apologize -- 30 to 40 seems pretty damn severe for "being stupid", versus a malicious attack. How old was he? 19?

Fleeing arrest (mistaken or not) in a stolen vehicle, plus his previous conviction probably had something to do with the severe sentence. Sounds like common sense isn't exactly something that runs in his family.

Yeah, sorry you're dead. The only reason they were hard on him is because he was a criminal running from the police. If some yuppie killed the same 3 riders in his hurry to get to work he would have gotten a slap on the wrist.

Kill 3 people and be out in 16 years. What a deal!

Selling weed or burning a cross in someone's lawn is a worse crime than murder now. Some preacher I read about could receive 47 years for having disrupted a gay rally. The right wing wackos give us the stupid fascistic drug war and the leftwing wackos give us stupid fascistic thought crimes penalties.

What a sick and twisted society.

Well, stupid or not, the guys father was right. There was no point in chasing him down. The guy was obviously twitchy as hell. Where was he going to go? Sooner or later the Police would have picked him up anyways. It sounds like the idiot had the stolen SUV in his parents driveway. That'll through off the Police for sure. They'd never suspect that he might show up at his parents house. He was only wanted for a fairly minor offense. Gung ho police policies contributed to this tragedy.

Dude - might want to check your facts. "Some preacher I read about could receive 47 years for having disrupted a gay rally." Sounds likely.

Right wing wackjobs give us the drug war, a real war real Americans are dying for, expanded mercury pollution, more taxpayer subsidies for logging and mining our public lands, etc, etc.

Left wing wackjobs maybe waste some tax dollars by legitimately trying to help the least among us.

There is a difference.

Unless that preacher disrupted a gay rally with an AK-47, I'm guessing you got lied to. Don't take it personally - it's the ONLY thing the right wing is good at. Certainly they're no good at saving the taxpayer money or running a war, at any rate.

OK, slow down with your "gung ho police policies" and re-read the articles and think for a second. The police were there to serve a warrant for child sexual abuse. When they get there, a guy from the house flees in a stolen SUV. Hindsight shows it was the wrong guy, but at the time, that's definitely a red flag... Especially when the guy blows through 2 police roadblocks and continues the chase into the next state.

You may not like the fact that police pursue criminals, but I'd just as soon they keep it up-especially when as serious as a child sexual abuse case.

Get your head out and see the light. The person responsible for this was the scumbag who was running from the police. In a stolen SUV. Who was already facing a warrant on a different charge. It's just a shame that we don't see running from the police and using your two-ton SUV as a weapon to be the crime it should be.

Default Bovine Ejectus.

2 stories from a small town in Tennessee:

911 was dialed from a quickstop, because a female customer was being beligerent to the clerk. Video shows no physical contact... but yelling and cursing.

suspect is getting into her car was cops arrive. Police officer approaches the car from the front with weapon drawn. Then shoots the driver, "because she made eye contact with me, and attempted to run me over". The punch line is, the medical examiner found the car still in reverse.

3 weeks later, same small town...

Old man driving down the road.... his accelerater gets stuck. Like something out of a movie. The old fella driving was in his 70's and he was paniced. The cops gave chase, and eventually set up a road block.

As the car charged the road block... An officer shot and killed the man. The officer then claimed he shot him because "He refused to make eye contact with me."

If anyone needs to pull his head from the sand its you. Cops are killing citizens with an ever increasing frequency. Those most disturbed by this, tend to be older cops who see the young punks acting like this, and getting away with it.

By the way... In both cases, both officers recieved multiple weeks off, with pay, and were cleared of any wrong doing.

When a citizen accidently kills a citizen, its man-slaughter. He goes to jail for 5-15.

When a cop accidently kills a citizen, he goes on a tax-payer paid vacation.

More and more, law-abiding citizens are getting more and more angry at cops. A lot of us are starting to agree with NWA on police matters.

That rat bastard should have died in the wreck. Now he must be supported with 3 meals a day, medical care, shelter and legal system tracking. Phucking waste of good air.

You know, in europe (most parts anyway), the cops run around armed with submachine guns. They are authorized to shoot when someone runs, not just to defend their or someone else's life. And let me tell you - contrary to the c$*p that you see on "wild police chases", there are FEW knuckleheads out there that dare to run from the polizei (or policia). It may sound a bit drakonian, but there is a good amount of truth to the idea that "running" = "guilty". Silly me....trying that common sense stuff again...
