As we export more manufacturing jobs you will see the dollar devaluate and thus we won't be rich and the roles will be reversed. Electronics went to SE Asia, Software to India, Cars to Mexico, and now airplanes to...... And if you don't make anything you won't need engineers so I'll be going back to the farm. Na we will just nuke the folks that won't give us oil or maybe will invade them so we can stick in a puppet government to sell us oil real cheap. . Wew for a second I was worried. Thanks for reminding about the Nuke thing.

Default What some Canadians say about SUVs amd gas prices.

Gas prices are high in Canada because of taxes. This fact along with the fact that most Canadians don't earn as much as Americans make SUVs out of reach for the average Canadian.

"If the government disbanded the NHTSB and repealed every product safety law tomorrow, I couldn't care less."

Hmmm.....if this happens I forsee a huge jump in Aviation accidents (amoung others), and no one to determine their causes. As a commercial pilot I can tell you that the airlines take enough cost-cutting short-cuts as it is. Scarey huh.

Look, taking away consumer choice is almost never a good idea. Our over-dependence on gasoline is a simple problem of economics. Currently, the cost you pay at the pump for a gallon of gas does not reflect the true costs of burning it, which include pollution, global warming, traffic, and, yes, support for regimes that are hostile to out nation's interests.

The solution is not to ban SUVs (or drugs, for that matter), but to ensure that the price we pay for gas reflects its true costs. This can be accomplished by much higher gas taxes, as in Europe. Do this, and the SUV "problem" will take care of itself.

We don't exist in a vacuum, which makes the idea of freedom w/o restraint a pipe dream. That's why we have a Constitution -- to set parameters for acceptable conduct within the framework of an open society, you know, the pursuit of happiness and all that.

But common sense tells me that our resources are finite, so that my "freedom" to drive a 13-mpg behemoth or flush a toilet as many times as I please in the arid West, is at best foolhardly.

Ariana's activism is in the tradition of our Founding Fathers -- to petition and redress a grievance. It's what we're all about. Her grassroot activism is commendable, especially when one considers what she's up against, namely, the large advertising & lobbying budget of the Big 3.

I cherish the choices I have in this country. I have a car, a motorcyle, a 10-speed bike, and my own two feet (and I'm just a working stiff!). I'm also fortunate to live in a town with good public transportation, which I use several times a week. My point was never to ban SUVs. I only ask for equity: that the same emissions & mpg standards of passenger cars apply to SUVs as well.

And to help out in the war against terrorism.

There is already a thread for this subject. It's right on the home page with a big picture, and even an idiot like you could see it. Anyone wanting to debate the new 600's can go there and post away. That would make it an appropriate place to talk about the subject, since a new 600cc motorcycle is the subject of that thread. Somehow I guess that unless YOU are the subject of a thread, it somehow isn't worth talking about. You even managed 4 semi-normal posts on this one before resorting to your usual stupidity. Here's Hint #1. Nobody cares about your little thread hijacking links. Hint #2 Grow up.

No, you're thinking of the whackos running utilities who realized that it was cheaper & safer to burn coal.

Do you live in the U.S.? The wealth of this country seems to trouble you a great deal. Maybe you should move to Canada or some other socialist country.

Wasn't Aslan the Lion a warm & furry allegory for God? Which begs the question -- did Lewis have a hidden agenda?

Even after two hundred years of slavery and 100 of JimCrow political oppression the black neighborhoods in the US, in 1950, had the lowest crime rates and the lowest rate of divorce and child abandonment.

Then, after two decades of liberal socialist "help" you can see what has happened.

Looks like CS Lewis was right.
