Default Re: Nobody wants to ban SUV'S!!!!

Both of you make great points. The tax code is way too complex and is used for all kinds of social engineering. I think the chances though are pretty slim to get it changed. But I have to say that SUVs need to be governed by the same rules as cars and be included in the CAFE standards

Default Don't forget the gas tax

Remember the gas tax raises billions in revenue for state and federal governments. Those SUVs are funding a lot of social services.

It's like cigarette taxes. We really need more people to start smoking.

I take it that your question marks are meant to represent conventional wisdom. Here's some further examples:</p>

? Multicylinder motorcycle engines consume more fuel per unit distance than other two wheeled vehicles.</p>

? Motorcycles have higher injury and fatality rates than 'normal' passenger vehicles.</p>

? Motorcycle riders are self-indulgent jerks on dangerous vehicles wasting fuel that could be used to fund mass transit.</p>

Okay, that last one is just bitterness, I admit. I'm so glad you don't wanna ban my SUV... maybe it's time for emissions and fuel economy requirements for bikes, too. Whoops, look, they're already working on it.</p>

Can anybody spare an extra ten grand? I want to buy a four-cylinder 600 instead of the thumper!</p>

Thank you Barbra Streisand. I will forward a list to you of my other activities so that you may pass judgement on those also.

I don't know how I can function day to day without your wise counsel.

I know you are wiser, more compationate and certainly more intelligent than I.

Awaiting further instruction on how to live my life...

"Of all tyrannies a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end

for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

"The decision to buy an SUV is a personal one all I would ask is that you consider the community impact of your new SUV prior to making your purchase."

I don't own an SUV nor do I plan to buy one, but as far as considering community impact:

Default Don't forget PJ Abe

Paraphrasing PJ O'rourke:

"When Republicans phuk up the economy, ruin the environment and screw the taxpayer at least someone makes a buck off of it. The Democrats do it just for fun."

Default Excellent Point Mr. President-Insurance companies are catching on

You make an excellent point about "SUVs are more likely to kill the passengers of other vehicles in accidents. " Insurance companies are starting to raise liability insurance for SUVs because SUVs cause more damage to other cars. In addition, they still have rollover problems no matter what the MO boys here say.
