Thanks for the help in my decision making! The brute horsepower of the GSXR, the point-and-shoot handling of the 954, and the low-end grunt of the smooth new R1...yep, I just called the local newspaper and cancelled the ad for my '00 ZX-9R. It is no longer for sale. It is the green color, 8,000 miles, excellent shape, new Rennsports, new brakes, Yosh RS-3 TI slip-on, 134 RWHP...and almost paid for! I can possibly get $7,000 for it on the market here in North Carolina, probably more like $6,500. I have been wrestling with whether or not the new literbikes are $4,000 better than my ZX-9R. I have to conclude that they just aren't enough of a step forward to justify the price. I am going to make an effort to better enjoy what I am riding! Maybe it is ME who needs to be $4,000 better. Thanks.

Pardner you rock.

Of the many responses posted here this is, IMHO, one of the best. Anyone with a good (great actually) recent literbike and enough sense to realize that one can spend endless amounts of disposable motorcycle income on the newest, coolest gadgets or take a rational self-assessment and spend that money on actually riding (or learning how to ride better) is one wise individual.

Excellent point! Gee, now you're making me think I should just get an SV650 or used track bike and spend the difference on another track school and a year's worth of track days. I'm absolutely thrilled with my Ducati, but as my pride and joy, I just don't want to ride hard at the track. This has caused my learning curve to flatten. Well, yeah - I guess it's just another excuse to add a third bike to the garage...

Also with no fairings to replace your more apt to toss it into a corner. Best thing is if you fly around a corner and find it full of sand, just pop up into flat track mode and slide it around. Saved my butt a few times on my KLR. Im in the market for a dirt bike again and Im thinking of getting a baja kit and a spare set of rims for street play. I miss grinding the pegs on my old KLR...
