Had a MAX, Valk, and friend has VTX. The MAX would out handle, out power(by a long shot) all of them. The Vmax is cruiser, it is actually more of a retro-non-retro cruiser. Let me explain...most cruisers are now all retro of 50's style today, however in the 80's-90's when the max appeared it was what a cruiser "was" example, v65 magna, sabres, vulcan's, shadows etc. Anyone who claims the Vmax is anything other than a cruiser is mistaken, just as if someone were to claim the ZRX1200r is not a a standard, despite the fact that a modern standard looks like the Sv/Fz1 lineups nowadays.

The V65 was first, and yes the MAX was an answer to it, however the MAX pushed technology much further than the V65 did, and essentially opened the door for many advancements down the road. It was reliable, mean and bold looking. The best part is that the concept came from an american's idea of what a musclebike should be. It is and will remain an ICON of power, not even the Hyabusa will be remembered for it's place like the VMAX will. Don't believe me...ask some 18yo male what a Vmax is...then ask him what a V65 Magna is. Still today many a person is smoking these little runny nosed brats on R1s, busa's etc, not occaisionally, but frequently. Mainly because of the MAX's ability to launch easily with an amount of forgiveness that short wheelbased inline four, track bike wannbes can't touch. Put a VMAX in anyones hands and they are a force to be reckoned with...put a hyabusa in the wrong person's hands and watch them either get smoked or get hurt trying to hang. Fact is the busa, along with several other bikes may be faster in the right person's hands, but in most peoples hands the MAX is the fastest. Besides it has the gearing to ensure it will not be humiliated too badly even against a busa rider who knows what he's doing.
