I think you may be missing the point with the tarriff discussion. The reason the MoCo was in such trouble was caused by several things.

1) AMF manufactured junk and tried the jap bike approach by floading the market with their crap.

2) Export taxes on HDs were huge

3) There was little or no import tax on bikes made outside the US

The biggest cause of all their troubles was number 1. There is one important fact to remember and it is the reason the MoCo and it's dealers can do what ever they want when it comes to selling bikes. Since buying back the company and getting that assist from government house, Harley has sold EVERY bike they have made(yes, every single one). They are the only motorcycle company that can make that boast and that will never change. They are the King of the Hill when it comes to motorcycles in the USA and any and all attempts to enter their market is viewed as clinging to a Giant to avoid getting squashed by it.

True. The others just didn't get it. I'm glad you have a sense of humor, Carlton.

Harley dealers make me want to puke these days. You walk into a shop wearing your leathers and you'll be lucky to get a salesperson to look up from their desk at you. Someone walks in behind you wearing an Alligator shirt and a pair of topsiders and they will run you over to help them. They're worse than a pack of geishas at a *****house in Okinawa.

I've read alot of reviews on the VTX and was very close to getting one myself. The only thing that worried me was all the talk about drive-train lash caused by the dampeners. Is it as bad as they say or is it something that the everyday joe rider won't even notice?

I worked at a Honda dealership. We got 3 Harleys traded in after being purchased new for new Shadows. Something about them "Losing power in the middle of the day" (Air cooled) and their dealer saying something like "that will happen." (Shame on you)

Maintenance is everything. Harleys just require more than most.

Go Harley if this bike gets the low maintenance and reliability of other bikes. Not to mention the price comes down.

To Harley: Stop selling a Name/Status symbol. Start selling bikes!
