"It seems the Versys is more of a competitor to the WeeStrom...'
i agree. the klr is probably by far the best bang for the buck in off-road touring. but from my limited experience with it, i would suppose that with progressive spring replacement and a proper set of rough-terrain tires, the versys would do just about anything i could ask of an adventure tourer. and i'd have the ninja 650 engine to boot.

Ace, you either do or used to sell bikes. You know there is no way a 650 twin version of the KLR would be at or below the current price (and at sub $5K it would be about $400 less than the current model).
Do I agree it would be a hell of a popular bike that would sell a ton of units? Yes. But it would never make it to the show room at anything less than $5999. And odds are it would be around $6499. It would be pretty sweet if they did price it that low, though. |

Oh my. Took a look and...08 is 50lbs plus!
Yikes. Thats hard to swallow....makes me want to find dusty 06, 07 on lonely showroom floor somewhere for Real Cheap. And the twin we dont get is 15lbs porkier still. Like it a lot though. |

Between the Insurance world and sales and finance, I've been involved in the motorcycle business for 10 of my 25yrs of riding. I agree that Kawi couldn't sell it for $4999, but it is possible to still undercut the XR650 ($5800) pricetag. The Ninja motor wouldn't even have to be "re-tuned" just set up the motor mounts then plug and chug. It'd still be thousands less than a BMW F GS bike and able to get 45mpg or better.
