Huh?

"For the design duties he brought in a young Spanish designer, Jose Gonzales, and together with Piaggio Group's engineers they settled on using the Yamaha-Minarelli XT 660 single as a power unit, leveraging Aprilia's experience with this engine, as it is also installed in the new Pegaso. From the cycle side of the equation, the desire to create a narrow bike dictated the use of a classic frame with a single downtube splitting into two bottom cradles, but the real touch of class comes from the unique side-mounted rear suspension that positions the shock in an almost upright position, with the linkage in plain view. No other solution could allow for such a narrow and low midsection while still housing a proper-sized air box. At the front end, there's an inverted Paioli fork with a tasty braking system hanging at the bottom. The radial-mounted four-piston caliper bites a large disc and is powered by a radial master cylinder."

That's just one paragraph.

As usual I enjoyed you write up, Yossef, it generates mixed feelings about this bike, too little power, compromised suspention, high price, great looks, oh well I would have to pass on it.

You however, brought back lots of memories for me, I too spent the 80's romping around Manhattan on a Kz650, and I used to go to Bridge Hampton race way to watch Rob Ianucci's bikes being raced by the great Dave Roper, what an awsome display of bike preparation and riding skills these two had, he sure has some incredible machines, it is too bad that Team Obsolete is not involved in racing historical events, it is the current racing organization's loss. The AMA is to blame also.

Sounds like you enjoyed the "biographical stuff." Me, too. A road test that's nothing but a road test is pretty dull. Yossef's pieces are always a good read, even if I have no interest in the bike.

Japanese bikes are expensive in Europe, where they have to compete against a healthy domestic motorcycle industry that produces a lot of different types of bikes... but the Japanese dump 'em pretty cheap in the US, which has only Harley.

Kinda odd...

Think of a "Hotwheels loop-de-loop", only all at ground-level and on hardpacked clay, with 197 screaming Harley XRs (and three Yamahas) all clawing sideways for nonexistant traction for 25 laps so Harley can brag about dominating the top-ten............

Default Black kz650, green pin stripes....

are you sure you werent riding my bike? When I had to leave NYC I simply parked the kz in a busy street corner with a sign reading: for sale - 500$ or else I dump it in the hudson. One guy came and gave me 450 one day before my flight....

Have to admit to not knowing what exactly went wrong between ahrma and rob.
