Default At least ONE crash...

The Reed Kennedy Brief Buell crash:

http://groups.google.com/group/rec.m...27b82675e773ce

Although an untrained rider, this untrained rider would NOT have crashed in this way on an EX500, but did on his big 1.2L Buell Cyclone, as hitting the track largely caused him to tweak the throttle hand, which was enough to launch the bike into the side of a bus.

there was actually supposed to be a couple more "o"s in there for effect. Guess the effect is lost now.

I don't know about that.

EX500:52hp

SV650: 72hp

1999 M2: 76hp and weighs 50-75lbs more.

You can get into the same trouble with the EX.

So, EX500 throttles are on the left handgrip?

thanks for mentioning the husqvarna 610, Gabe. I just got back from little ride on my KLR, about 20 miles to a new husqvarna dealership that opened up last summer. They had a SM610 and the SMR 450s and 510s on the showroom floor. The SM610 is 313 lbs and a claimed 53 hp. Thats significantly better than my KLR but probably not in R6 territory power to weight wise. BTW, the SM610 looks great in matte gray (o6 model).

I thought the AMA was trying to come up with funds to meet some matching criteria for BIG Goverment money. My bad for not having the link handy, it should get poste. Hmmm guess that means I didn't contribute, yet, I better fix that.

I think his point is that the response you get when your hand is "tweaked" would be less on an EX500. His hand didn't hit the track, his wheels did. I can vouch for the difference this can make - the first time I rode a Fireblade I felt like I was going to fall off the back of the bike - I just wasn't ready for it. And that was after a lot of riding on a 250. Going straight to the Fireblade without the small bike experience would just make this worse/more unexpected.

As for being better off on an EX500 though in this situation, as someone who rides with tram tracks all the time, the narrow tires on an EX may have made the situation worse, not better, as they get caught up in the tracks more easily.

Bottom line: Tracks on roads suck. Be careful. Get training, and practice without mini buses around...
