The bottom line is "You can't legislate stupidity". As soon as you make something idiot proof, along comes a bigger idiot.

Short & faulty memory of Forbes there Gabe. He did NOT present the flat tax as a panacea. Forbes opined long and loud about all sorts of issues that are not necessarily tax related such as corporate governance (Better disclosure), more deregulation of business and on and on. While Forbes Flat Tax proposal WAS his campaign centerpiece both times - IF you recall (you don't!), HSA's were also pushed long and hard. In fact, Forbes is the only one on the national political scene that has pushed anything like a market based approach to health care issues - HSA's do work, too.

I will give you an "A" for effort with respect to the pitfalls of overly simplified arguments - but if I were you, I'd stay away from tax policy & resultant political economic effects until you become a bit more educated. Hint: Krugman may be an ok academic economist, but his NYT columns are pure political hackery. Another hint: right off the top of my very tired head, I can think of 6 or 8 folks who post here routinely who can eat you alive re economics & taxes. None of them are me.

I'm REALLY looking forwards to the next clueless taxation stmt. May you be in a high tax bracket & facing phaseouts & AMT soon. You deserve it!! "The sword of high income cuts both ways!"

Finally on the actual subject at hand: I'll stay in the freedom corner thankyavrymuch. Other than great grub, coffee, wine & smooth roads, I don't see much in Euro land - less in Asia land - that good 'murricans need to emulate.

They said, "Oh, you're on a boat. You probably won't need to use it much". Apparently the red tape involved in replacing a rifle was too much for them.

That's easy: "Dammit! I was standing watch on the stern as we were idling along, I slung it over my shoulder to light a smoke *just* as the pilot pinned the throttles - in my off-balance moment, the rifle was lost overboard.......... We tried to use a grapnel and a magnet to dredge it up, but in vain."

Only, *REALLY* chuck that sucker overboard.

Default You got it...

You got that right, put a new rider on this little 250, let him rev it to the moon for a 0-60 MPH in under 4 second launch and watch him/her launch right off the back of the bike!!

Easy enough to fix THAT - just drink it, then nobody ELSE will be threatened by that dangerous 1/2-inch..........

Lets not interchangeably use "injury" and "fatality".

Right. But I *WAS* thinking "injury" when I wrote it.

However, I should have added "Rollerbladers", "Skateboarders", "Skiers", etc. to the bicycle comment.
