Irrelevant Facts and Data. You can't compare HD tourers with other brands.. HD can market the romance of the open road on a modern American cruiser..

What demographic is that? "18-25-year-old-males-who-date-kpaul's-daughter-and-don't-ride-motorcycles"?

I think you pegged it Geor...er...Longride. The Sportster R is the best thing Harley puts out and the closest to what would be competitive performance with the rest of the motorcycle industry. Good Job.

In fact I'll go a step further and say bikes like the Sporty, Bonneville, Monster and R1150R and the like are really much more fun than some 800 lb. sh*t-barge "cruiser" and to me that's what riding is about, having fun.

I guess if you want to pose and be a rebel or rugged individualist or what have you then you wouldn't even look at one of these, but to just get out and get your Ya Ya's out they can't be beat.

Unfortunately, Yamaha decided to force riders to special order their FJR's, unless you find a dealer who likes to put down-payments on FJR's in the name of a fictional buyer. I only know of one dealer who special orders FJR's by using fictional buyers, and the FJR's they have on the floor disappear very quickly! The other dealers I've spoken to always had someone lined up to special order their allotment of FJRs. At one time, I was desperately hoping to find an FJR that someone backed out on so I could get a test ride before buying one. But, I was never that lucky and moved on to a different bike. I'm sure that sport tourers aren't the best selling bikes in the world, but plenty of riders do buy them. When the current crop of sport bike owners get to the point that they can't tolerate the lack of comfort of a true sport bike, they're probably going to be looking for a sport tourer. They again, I don't see the typical H-D rider being interested in a H-D sport tourer. But, that may be a good move to pull in the other riders who have no interest in any of the current H-Ds. However, like you, I seriously doubt that H-D would engineer a whole new platform to try to sell a sport tourer. No facts here on this point, just my opinion.

Default I have one of those Viagra Pen-and-Pencil sets...

And it's really not that good. The pen spews ink all over the paper if I squeeze it too tightly, and the pencil is too hard and thick to write with easily.

bada-bing!

Default A fictional buyer?

You mean they put:

KPaul

Kpaul

KPaul

Kpaul

on the order form?

If it writes for more than 4 hours see a doctor.

after reading the article I have to say that I agree with Longride on the Nightrod.

I've owned one since late '05 and its scuffed a few boots since then.

I also have a 883R Sportster but I've been disappointed with the motor since I've gotten it.

and .. the carb is way useless. it must be babied into propelling the bike.

I'm sure the 1200 bumps up the enjoyment, but still not enough for me.

I've never driven a Bob. Don't think I will either.

all in all. Great "on point" review/shootout.

oh, and to the guy who wants the 1098...

I'll race you too the dealer but I don't think they want my '05 999. in a trade.

Would that be buyer, rider or both?
